Thick Washers for Bolts - Guide & Tips

When talking about size, knowing right measurements is essential for project. First step measure diameter of your bolt. For example if bolt is 1/2 inch, look for flat washer spring washer that fit that size. Then think about thickness of washer. Thicker washer support heavy loads better, thinner one suit for light applications. Also consider thickness of materials your working with. If bolting two thick wood pieces, thick washer distribute pressure even. But if on thin metal sheet, thinner washer may prevent bending or warp.  

Thick washers for bolts is small but important part when putting things together. They are flat washer and spring washer placed under bolt head or nut. Usually made of metal, their job spread weight or load from bolt over larger area. This very important because when bolt tighten, it create lot pressure in one small spot. Too much pressure can damage material or make bolt loose over time.  

While thick washers great for improve strength, some things need avoid when using them. First important choose right size for project. steel flat washers too small wont spread load properly and still cause problems. On other hand, too big washer can make issues like hard fit in tight spaces. Also watch material of washer.
